How To Open Nat

How To Open Nat -

What is NAT and how to open Nat on my router? – NAT, or Network Address Translation, refers to a device usually a firewall or router who connects to the Internet on your behalf. The Firewall connected to the internet will have a whats is called a public IP address. This Public IP address is reachable on the Internet.

So if you had a Web server with a public IP address you could browse onto the Public IP address and view your web server. Behind you firewall you will usually have your PC’s or laptops. These will be protected by the Firewall and will have private IP addresses usually assigned to them by the firewall or router.

These devices hide behind the firewall but if they need to communicate to the internet to firewall will mask the devices using what is call NAT.

It will take the private IP address and change it into the Public IP address and then send the packet out onto the internet. Once the packet returns the firewall will again translate the packet from the public IP address back to the private IP address and send it to the inside PC or laptop. This does give your inside computers some protection from the internet as virus’s and worms constantly probe public IP addresses to infect them.

One of crucial benefits of NAT (Network Address Translation) routers is that the router or firewall hides your internal IP addresses or pc, Macs or laptops. The internet only sees your router which will have been security hardend and have no ports open by default. This makes is harder for a would be hacker to do any harm to your inside PC’s. This proficiently masks the fact that there is several computers in the internal LAN that perhaps will be sharing files and printers that could otherwise been attacked. So you need to find out how to open Nat on your router properly as if you open the wrong port it wont work but openning to many ports and you may then open you home PC to an internet hacker. This not only offers protection advantages. NAT allows you to have more than an individual computer on your household or workplace network while you only have to buy a single public IP address from your ISP or just have your ISP assign to a Public DHCP address.

How does NAT get the job done? If you turn on your computer you will obtain a RFC1918 Private IP address with from the router. Commonly with most Cable/DSL routers this may be on an 192.168.x.x subnet. This internal private IP will get converted to a NATTED/public IP address when accessing the internet by the router. Due to the fact all pcs to the LAN will talk to the router with internal IP addresses and talk to each other with internal ip addresses. But when you want to access the outside or internet the router will convert your inside/private IP address to and outside/public IP address this will get changed back once the return packet comes back. The NAT router remembers/tracks those connections made in an inside a table. It uses this table to match return connections towards the right laptop or computer to the personal LAN aspect on the router.

To Open Nat on your router or firewll you’ll need to roughly following these alternatives taken from a linksys router Go to your browser and connect to in 192.168.1.1 and that could take you on the basic login page. Then type in your admin account details. If they are still default settings I recommed you change you admin password immediatly as this is something hackers will found out and they will login into your router without you knowing. So please change you default admin password. In the Linksys page, check out ‘applications and gaming’ and around the Port Collection page feed in thesefields. Your application should then be open to the internet. Make sure you click Enable and Then ‘save settings’ and ‘continue’. There you go! But remember your application is now open to the internet and some hackers will find you so make sure you have anti virus protection and all the latest patches/service packs installed.

Opening nat on a linksys router is again really simple just follow these steps.

1. Login to your router/firewall with an admin account

2. Navigate to “application & Gaming”

3. Choose which ports you want to open. So if you wanted a webserver port to open you would place a name first say “webserver” then the port which would be “80″ start and “80 protocol would be tcp and then you enter the IP address of your inside host.
